Performing Regular Maintenance On Your RV

Posted on: 21 April 2015

Whether you take your RV out on special occasions or you spend lots of time on your RV, it requires regular maintenance on it every year. This will help maintain the value of the RV and keep it running properly. In many cases, you can avoid some repairs by keeping your RV is great working shape. While performing maintenance on the vehicle, you can also check out areas that tend to need repair more often and catch them before they worsen. There are a few areas of the RV that require annual maintenance to be done. Here are some of the things you should be checking for.

Water Heater

The last thing you want to experience is a lack of hot water while traveling on the road. In order to keep your water heater running, you need to keep it maintained. In doing this, you want to replace any corroded parts you see. You also want to flush out any sediments you see that may be clogging the water heater. This can be done by hooking it up to a flushing wand. Once you have completed maintenance on the water heater, you should hook it back up and test it to make sure everything is working properly. This should be done about 2 to 3 times each year.

Tire Pressure

One of the most important thing you should do to your RV is check the tire pressure. You do not want to maneuver your vehicle on a variety of terrains without having the adequate tire pressure. The right tire pressure is based on the weight of your RV and the size of your tires. In many cases, the tire pressure may be different on the front tires than the back tires.By installing a tire pressure monitor system, you can easily tell when your tire pressure is not right.

Oil

There are two areas where you need to check the oil and change it regularly. The type of engine you have will determine how often to change your oil. A gas engine will require the oil to be changed 3,000 to 5,000 miles, while a diesel engine requires it to be changed every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. If you have a generator on the RV, you need to make sure you change the oil in it periodically too. This should be done after the first 50 hours and then every 100 hours going forward. Doing so will ensure your engine is ready to go for the next trip.
