2 Things You Can Do To Keep Your Car's Paint Job Looking Good

Posted on: 18 September 2020

If you have a lot of scratches on your car, you might decide that you want to get it repainted so that it looks how it did before it got all scratched up. If you choose to repaint your car, you'll want to take good care of your paint job so that it will continue to look as good as possible for as long as possible. Learn about some simple things that you can do to help maintain your car's paint job.

Wait to Wash

You may feel the urge to immediately run out and wash your car so that it looks all nice and shiny, but you should wait to wash it. Ideally, you should wait two weeks. This amount of time will give the paint time to finishing setting and curing. If you do get a little bit of dirt on your car during these first two weeks, you can just rinse it off with some water; but don't rub anything or use a brush to brush it off.

After two weeks, you can wash your car, but just make sure that you use a gentle soap that is designed specifically for car paint and that you use soft, clean, lint-free cloths. You should also dry the car off when you are done washing it because the water droplets could cause spotting.

Keep It Out of the Sun

The ultraviolet rays from the sun will cause your paint to fade out and could discolor your paint. So keep your car out of the sun as much as possible. That means parking in a garage or covered structure when you can. If it isn't possible for you to do that at home, you can always get a cloth car cover. You just place it over your car when you park it every night, and the sunlight won't be able to affect it. As an added bonus if you get a lot of snow where you live, putting a cover on your car when you park it can help you handle the snow cleanup, because all you have to do is pull the cover off your car, and your car is all clear.

If you have just gotten a new paint job on your car, you want to make sure that it looks as good as possible for as long as possible.
